Breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day, and in our opinion one of the most delicious! Breakfast is one of our favourites because you can have everything and anything at breakfast whether its sweet or savoury, small or big, healthy or indulgent. Breakfast is the perfect meal.
The word in English refers to breaking the fasting period of the prior night. There is a strong tendency for one or more typical or traditional, breakfast menus to exist in most places, but the composition of this varies widely from place to place, and has varied over time, so that globally a very wide range of preparations and ingredients are now associated with breakfast, breakfast can be anything you want.
Many cultures have many different traditions when it comes to breakfast and all meals. Breakfast in ireland in the 80s and 90s was a very simple meal of Porridge made with water, fruit and typically toast with tea etc. It was very simple and plain but it was healthy and set you up for the day ahead. Now, Breakfast is typically more complex, there is a lot more to breakfast with different dishes and different styles of foods. As well as breakfast we now have the phenomenon called: Brunch. Fabulous french toast, Fresh avocado and eggs, perfect pancakes, flavourful full irish breakfast, beautiful burgers, scrumptious sandwiches and sumptuous salads. A perfect mixture of breakfast and lunch washed down with a cheeky bellini!
A Bord Bia study has revealed that almost 9 in 10 87% Irish people have breakfast every day, with this rising slightly to 89% at the weekends, and 41% of f these people check emails and social medias whilst eating breakfast. Bread and toast tops the Bord Bia survey as Ireland’s favourite midweek breakfast for one third/ 33%of people. This is followed by porridge 25%, cereals 19%, eggs 18% and fruit 17% respectively. Tea is the preferred drink at home with nearly half/ 44% of people drinking it during the week, while another 28% drink coffee. Water and fruit juice follow behind at 12% and 9% respectively while only 4% of people drink a fruit smoothie they have made themselves. in the mornings.
Breakfast restores glucose levels, an essential carbohydrate that is needed for the brain to function. Many studies have shown how eating breakfast can improve memory and concentration levels and it can also make us happier as it can improve mood and lower stress levels. The national health service shows that eating breakfast has long term health benefits. It can reduce the risk of obesity, high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes. As well as breakfast providing us with energy, breakfast foods are also a good source of important nutrients such as calcium, iron and B vitamins as well as protein and fibre. So it’s worth a trip to the riddler to enjoy the most important meal of the day!
