As set out by our last blog, Its june! Knowing what’s in Season is so important for cooking and creating dishes, especially for chefs. Using the freshest produce possible is so important in producing delicious meals. Your effectively making tastier food and saving the environment all in one! The recipes down below will show you exactly how to make fruit and veg the hero of a dish! Here are some tips on how to get the best out of your fruits and veggies!

To get the most from your fruit and vegetables this Season:

  • Eat a variety of fruit and veg for maximum benefits
  • Buy whatever is in season – it’ll be cheaper and fresher
  • Cover and refrigerate any fruit or vegetables that you’ve cut
  • Stir-fry, steam or microwave your veggies – this way, none of their goodness is lost
  • Buy fruit tinned in its own juice rather than fruit tinned in syrup
  • When buying tinned vegetables, compare like-for-like and go for brands that are lower in salt
  • Spoon natural yoghurt over fruit salad instead of cream
  • Always eat what’s in Season!

Knowing your portions is important as not to under eat or overeat. 1 portion of fruit is: 1 apple, banana, pear, orange or other similar sized fruit, 30g dried fruit or 150ml glass of fruit juice or smoothie (counts as a maximum of one portion a day). In terms of veg : 1 portion of vegetables is, 1 dessert bowl of salad  or 3 heaped tablespoons of vegetables (raw, cooked, frozen or tinned)

To quench your thirst there is a lovely little recipe for refreshing elderflower cordial that makes a perfect summer party stunner.
