The simple art of coffee

A cup of coffee, everyone’s favorite caffeinated drink. Here at the Riddler Restaurant we pride ourselves on a delicious indulgent cup of coffee. Espresso, Macchiato, Americano, Cappuccino, Flat White, Latte, Mocha and Iced Coffees, we have the lot. Johnny Forty Coats is an iconic Dublin figure, who wandered around the city wearing as some would say “forty coats!” Our coffee blend is called “Johnny Forty Coats” and made in the local Dublin roastery, Two Spots. This is a five origin rich blend using Arabica beans ethically sourced from South America with an Indian Cherry Robusta addition for an extra caffeine kick. A very good mix.

Let’s have a look at the history of this popular drink. There is a story about how coffee was first discovered. It is said that coffee was discovered in 800 A.D by a local goat farmer in the Ethiopian plateau who noted that when his goats ate the berries off a certain plant they would become very energetic. He also noted that they were restless and couldn’t sleep properly. The farmer noted his discovery and brought his information to a local monastery where the monks made a beverage with these ‘energizing berries’ and word began to spread. And so beans were collected and they were shipped to all corners of the world. And so here we are, in a society functioning on this magic energy bean known now as ‘coffee’

Coffee is the second most traded commodity on earth, just behind oil and Brazil produces 40% of the world’s coffee, which is twice as much as 2nd and 3rd place holders, Colombia and Vietnam. We all love a cup of coffee, but don’t drink to much.. did you know that you can overdose on coffee? As if that’s possible for us! But don’t worry , you would have to drink 100 cups to consume the lethal dose of caffeine that could potentially harm you.

Here at the Riddler we definitely know how to make any cup of coffee great. Whether you enjoy a strong Americano, Espresso, flat white, macchiato or a lighter Latte, Cappuccino, mocha or iced coffee we will be sure to satisfy your coffee desires.
